Retirement of Fr. Brian.

It is with deep sadness and owing to continuing health issues that I am retiring as co Parish Priest in Good Shepherd Parish from this weekend. Archbishop Dermot has accepted this request following a recent meeting with him. I will be meeting with Archbishop Dermot again in the New Year and health permitting, I will be considered for an appointment in the summer diocesan changes of 2023. I will continue to reside in Churchtown for the present.

I would like to express my deep gratitude for the prayers and good wishes of so many people over the past 9 difficult months of ill health. To all who have been of support to me, all those who have given and continue to give wonderful service to the parish community, I will be forever and eternally grateful. I thank all the wonderful parish staff and parish team for their kindness and dedication over my years in Churchtown, remembering too those who have gone home to heaven. I thank the many priests who have celebrated the sacraments in my absence, sometimes at short notice. I acknowledge with gratitude the tremendous work and dedication of all in our school communities and wish you every blessing in the new school year. To all I say ‘Thank You’ I will always have very fond and precious memories of Churchtown, a place I received my secondary education and a church that I received the Sacrament of Confirmation. I will continue to remember all of you in my prayers and ask that you continue to remember me in your prayers for a return to full health.

With my sincere thanks and good wishes.

Fr. Brian

Fr. Martin writes;

Firstly I would like to thank Fr. Brian for his years of dedicated service to Churchtown and to wish him a full and speedy recovery to full health and to a new appointment hopefully next summer. Earlier this week Archbishop Farrell asked me to assume responsibility for the Good Shepherd Parish Churchtown in addition to my other responsibilities with effect from 1st October. I appreciate there are many in the parish looking forward to a new beginning and with the good will of the parishioners and with the help of God that will happen. I thank all those who have been keeping the Good Shepherd Parish on the move during the time of Fr. Brian’s illness.

Please keep him and all of us in your prayers.
